Video Games DO NOT cause Violence…Help?

So I have to give an Informative Speech for my Public Speaking class. The topic I chose was Violence and Video Games. I have always agreed that video games DO NOT cause violence. Unfortunately I can not just use my own experience of 16 years to prove they do not.I’m allowed only to use sites ending in .Edu and .Gov. I was wondering if anyone else has had to talk about/ defend video games and how they are not the result of violence in teens. If so what sites/ other sources did you use that gave you some good information? Statistics would be the best thing since this speech is based around Pathos.

You have posed an interesting question. You should try to find information on the various studies that have been done linking video games to violence, or debunking said link. Make sure you show both sides of the story, and indicate why you believe those who conclude there is a link are wrong. You might want to cite other external influences on violence, like poverty, living conditions, family problems, and so on, as possible explanations for violence that have nothing to do with video games. The fact that there are many people who play violent video games, and turn out just fine, will likely be in any study worth reading.

Another thing I would look for is any court cases where someone has tried to sue video game companies for causing violence through their video games. Again, make sure you show both sides, and show why you believe those who disagree with you are wrong. Good luck. – LJS
